PDO Threads

Thread lifts are relatively new form of non surgical face lift. If your face has loosening or sagging skin and you want a tighter, fresher more youthful look, you should consider this treatment.

How does a Thread lift work?

Using a really fine needle special dissolvable threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO) are injected into the skin, and sometimes the muscle, to tighten the skin.

The PDO threads have a powerful dual effect. The first is to give an immediate lifting effect. The second is to stimulate your bodies own Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid.

  • Collagen is a protein responsible for the tension and firmness of your skin.
  • Elastin is responsible for skin firmness and elasticity.
  • Hyaluronic Acid causes your skin to rehydrate. Stimulating your own skin’s production of hyaluronic acid, results in improved skin moisture and less-prominent wrinkles.

How are the PDO threads inserted?

A tiny entry will be made by the ear then fine threads are advance along pre-marked contours. Your body then starts to produce new bundles of collagen which surround each threads and this in turn creates a subtle yet effective lift. There is no scaring and recovery times are a lot less than those associated with traditional surgery.

Who is a thread lift suitable for?

A thread lift is more suited to men and woman between the ages of 40 and 70. The procedure is most effective on skin that has a minimal sagging and offers the best results for cheeks, jowls, brows and the neck area. If you are looking for results that are more effective and long lasting then Botox and other fillers, then a threads lift is the ideal choice. If you are put off by traditional surgery or don’t want general anesthetic, then a thread lift is a great as it is minimally invasive and can be carried out under local anesthetic.

What are the risks?

Immediately afterwards, there may be some mild  bruising, swelling, tenderness and numbness.  Although there is no medical reason why you could not return to work, most will want to have a day or two at home.

How long do the results last?

A thread lift’s lasting power depends on the age of the patient at the time of the procedure and how much sagging the thread lift has corrected. It should be noted that sagging will return over time, but that the result can last for anything between 2-3 years. To extend the results it is possible to have additional threads inserted and your practitioner can advise you when this is required.
